Rhinoplasty Overview
Nose surgery, also known as a rhinoplasty procedure, is a nose-reshaping procedure for improving the structure of the nose. It can be done to correct structural inconsistencies, such as a bump on the nose, or for improving breathing issues, as well as provide subtle changes for enhancing your facial structure. A rhinoplasty procedure helps reduce the size of the nose or nostrils.
Salameh Plastic Surgery offers two types of primary rhinoplasty procedures. If major nose reshaping is required, an open rhinoplasty is performed, in which the entire nasal anatomy is assessed and enhanced surgically. For a less drastic reshaping, smaller incisions will be used to restructure bone and cartilage as desired.

What to Expect & How to Prepare for a Rhinoplasty Procedure
Our plastic surgeons work in tandem with our patient care team to ensure patients understand all of the benefits, expectations, results, and risks.
While preparing for your rhinoplasty surgery, you will need to stop smoking tobacco products and drinking alcohol prior to your procedure, as both can compromise blood flow to the skin and impact your results.
rhinoplasty cosmetic procedure may take one to two hours, in which the cosmetic surgeon will place incisions around your nose according to the alterations you would like to make. Typically, the nasal skin is removed and then draped over the new framework of the nose. In most cases, a nasal splint is also provided to help stabilize the nose.
Rhinoplasty Post-Procedure Healing & Care
The rhinoplasty healing process is gradual. Swelling and minor bleeding are not unusual. Bruising around the surgical area may occur as well. Many patients have experienced final, full results within a year of their procedure. It is important to understand that results and healing time varies greatly between individuals. You will receive an individualized post-procedure care plan from your patient care team, as well.
A rhinoplasty can also be complemented by additional facial procedures to help maintain overall balance on the face. These procedures can include an eye lift or fillers.

Frequently Asked Questions About a Rhinoplasty Procedure
If you’re thinking of undergoing a rhinoplasty procedure, the first step is to schedule a complimentary, no-obligation consultation to discuss your overall health and medical history to determine if you’re a good candidate. Certain health conditions, like hemophilia, may preclude you from being a candidate. After performing a physical evaluation to determine the best surgical approach, our patient care team will work with you to prepare a plan that is right for you. Some standard recommendations may include:
- No smoking or drug use prior to surgery
- No alcohol use prior to surgery
- Avoid pain medication two weeks prior to surgery
Every surgical procedure carries certain risks. With rhinoplasty, risks include numbing, swelling, nosebleeds, numbness, infection, and allergic reaction to the anesthesia. You can minimize these risks by working with skilled, experienced rhinoplasty plastic surgeons like Dr. Saba and Dr. Salameh who both have reputations for delivering personalized care and exceptional results.
After the rhinoplasty procedure, your plastic surgeon will apply splints and dressings that can be removed after about a week. It is best to keep your head elevated for the first 24 hours. You may experience mild swelling around the eyes for about 2 weeks, but you can return to normal social activities within 2 to 3 weeks after your rhinoplasty procedure. By that time, all visible signs of your plastic surgery will have likely subsided.
Skilled plastic surgeons like Dr. Salameh and Dr. Saba can complete a rhinoplasty procedure without visible scarring in many cases. In our fully accredited AAAASF certified in-office surgical facility, we offer the option of closed procedures where the plastic surgeon operates inside the nose, thereby eliminating the potential for scarring on the outside. Open procedures are also an option, whereby the plastic surgeon makes an incision in the visible tissue between the nostrils. Scarring for this type of procedure should be minimal.
